What were you thinking? Why lawyers should be very careful with who they let handle their web marketing.

I am not an active blogger, but I saw something today that turned up in my Google Alerts that will make you shake your head and laugh (Or cringe). It is an “article” turned out in support of a Toronto lawyer (Who shall remain nameless) with a practice that focuses on real estate and criminal law.

The first paragraph begins (Posted verbatim):

“There will probably almost certainly certainly be an occasion or maybe periods in your life once you may decide that you happen to be sometimes ready to purchase 1st home, upsize your house as well as downsize into a scaled-down house. You may also maintain the market for paying for enterprise property or home. Most of these buying will be sometimes the most significant as well as some of the biggest acquisitions you could have. It’s a definite that you do not need to make just about any faults during the process of making this kind of critical acquire.”

This is followed by several more equally horrific paragraphs of text attempting to convince the reader of this particular lawyer’s legal prowess as a real estate and criminal defense lawyer. Oh, did I mention the Indian penis enlargement ads that display along side that text? Classy! The icing on the cake was my McAfee anti-virus blocking elements of the page due to their “Risky” origin – Read virus / malware.

Nameless lawyer, what were you thinking?

How do you think this reflects on you?

Everyone wants to be on top of Google’s page one – But outsourcing your SEO to an offshore spammer is asking for trouble.

Links from article farms won’t help your search rank – It will hurt you. Google’s Panda update was, in large part, to address the epidemic of link abuse employed by black hat seo “experts”. Omnipotent Google knows all – But even if it didn’t; your seo guy was kind enough to link to the 34 other keyword stuffed articles he has authored.

Google and Bing suggest best practices for achieving good search results. There are no shortcuts. It requires specialized knowledge and time, but it’s not rocket science.

Some of the highest ranking websites out there for law related keyword searches are lawyer directory services. They deliver the eyeballs and top search ranking you seek at an affordable price. Most importantly, nameless lawyer – Listing with a reputable lawyer directory won’t result in you being penalized in search results and helps you keep your reputation intact.
